SLEEPY TIME
“The best bridge between despair and hope is a good night’s sleep.” – E. Joseph Cossman
Sleep is critical for proper function of the human body. Quality sleep improves our strength, mental clarity, mood, energy, memory, and immunity. Unfortunately, lack of sleep has been normalized and we have been conditioned to “deal” with it. “Given the potential adverse effects of insufficient sleep on health, well-being and productivity…sleep-deprivation [has] far-reaching societal and economic consequences.” (1)
How can chiropractic help? Spinal subluxations inhibit normal sleep rhythms. Improving nerve system function through chiropractic adjustments allows the body to function as it was designed.
A fascinating 2024 study showed significant improvement in the length of light sleep stage for chiropractic patients after only 4 weeks of care. There was also an increase in overall quality of life, including meaningful improvements in anxiety, depression, fatigue, as well as decreases in pain levels. How does this happen? The results suggest that increased body stimulation from chiropractic adjustments altered the way the brain processed both internal and external sensory information. When the brain is more accurately aware of spinal positioning/sensation, it results in updated brain-body mapping and better movement control, reducing microtraumas and improving function and symptoms. This led to improved overall body perception and emotional control, less pain intensity and unpleasantness, less anxiety and depression, and increased energy, light sleep and light activity. (2)
By getting your spine checked and adjusted, hyper-activated muscles can calm down, your parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) nervous system is activated, and the brain retrains itself with a more accurate picture of what’s happening in the body. This leads to better overall control and processing.
Not sleeping is NOT normal for kids or adults! Bring rest and harmony back into your life with specific Gonstead chiropractic care and quality sleep. Get checked and give your body the gift of a fully functioning spine, brain and nervous system!
