Heel Yeah! Let Chiropractic care kick Plantar Fasciitis to the Curb

What Is Plantar Fasciitis?

Do you ever get sharp and stabbing heel pain that is especially more noticeable in the first few steps in the mornings? Discomfort while standing long periods of time? Well you are most likely experiencing plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pains that Chiropractors often see, especially for people who are on their feet a lot, have poor posture, or suffer from musculoskeletal imbalances. It is due to inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of connective tissue in the bottom of your feet.

How Can Chiropractic Help?

Although a lot of different therapies focus on the feet itself the actual problem is most likely happening in the low back and hips through spinal subluxations (misalignments). You might be wondering how the low back and hips will affect the foot. The body operates in a interconnected system, a subluxation in one area can prevent proper nerve flow and communication to the lower extremities. This is evident in lumbar and hip subluxations as the nerves that control the lower extremities come out of the lumbar vertebrae and sacrum. Subluxations in the lumbar spine can lead to altered gait and posture, putting extra stress on the feet contributing to plantar fasciitis.

A case study published by Baltimore Medical Research highlighted that the pelvis (hips) directly correlate with plantar fasciitis and relating back to how a shift in the hips (subluxation) can play a role in affecting the severity of it.

Next time you experience sharp stabbing foot pain, consult the Doctors at our office to do some spinal testing and check for subluxations. It may just be adjustments that will help correct the biomechanics of your hips and help relieve pressure spots.
